• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
• Organize, lead, and promote interest in the Visual Arts, including incorporation of Art History into lessons.
• Guide students in creative solutions following the Visual Art
• curriculum
• Attend all Visual Arts Workshop training sessions, participate, and take notes
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
• Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet the student’s needs.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities
• Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of art materials, tools, and equipment, including cleanup.
• Help students observe, discuss, and write about their art
• Help plan and set-up all aspects of art shows (as applicable)
• Contribute communications and content for website for the arts
• Assist with plans for student trips to Museums
• Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other
• students, explaining rules, and encouraging participation.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
• Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project
• Promote positive character development in all youth
• Most New York Edge Specialists are expected to provide homework support during Academic hour.

Required skills:

• Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the Photography and Digital Media
• Must have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in the Visual Arts
• Must have knowledge of Photography and Digital Media techniques, terminology, and vocabulary
• Must be responsible, reliable and punctual!
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
